Vendedora:

A novecientas pesetas el kilo.

Nine hundred pesetas a kilo.

Kathy:

Deme medio kilo.

Give me half a kilo.

Vendedora:

Aquí tiene. ¿Algo más?

Here you are. Anything else?

Kathy:

¿A cómo las gambas?

How much is the shrimp?

Vendedora:

A mil doscientas.

One thousand two hundred.

Kathy:

¡Uy! ... Bueno, pues déme un cuarto de kilo.

Wow! ... Well, give me

a quarter of a kilo.

Vendedora:

Son setecientas cincuenta por todo.

It's seven hundred and fifty for everything.

Vendedora:

¿Qué le pongo hoy?

What can I do for you today?

Kathy:

Póngame dos kilos de patatas, un kilo de tomates, y dos lechugas.

Give me two kilos of un kilo de potatoes, one kilo of tomatoes, and two heads of lettuce

Vendedora:

Y fruta, ¿no quiere hoy?

And fruit, you don't want [any] today?

Kathy:

Sí, claro. Deme dos kilos de naranjas, un kilo de plátanos y medio kilo de uva. Nada más.

Yes, sure. Give me two kilos of oranges, one kilo of bananas, and half a kilo of grapes. That's it.

Vendedora:

Son ciento setenta y cinco pesetas.

It is one hundred and seventy-five pesetas.


 



Notes on conversation

Merluza (hake) and besugo (sea bream) are usually sold fresh in fish markets. The same is true for shellfish. Frozen fish is available in supermarkets. Merluza is a very popular fish served in restaurants throughout the year.

A novecientas pesetas el kilo, "nine hundred pesetas a kilo."

Algo más, literally "something more."

Nada más, literally "nothing more."
